As part of the decisions taken at the end of the 156th session of the Arab League Council held at the ministerial level, the Arab foreign ministers praised the role of the neighboring countries of Libya, in particular Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt, which have hosted the Libyan dialogue sessions as part of the support for the peace process led by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya in its three components: political, economic and military.
The participants in the ministerial meeting stressed the leading role of the League of Arab States in strengthening consultation and coordination among member states with a view to achieving a comprehensive political settlement of the Libyan crisis, while underlining the importance of continuing efforts made within the framework of the Quadripartite Commission on Libya and of coordinating with the partners concerned by the Libyan issue, in particular the African Union and the European Union.
The Arab ministers also reaffirmed their support for the new unified authority, represented in the Presidential Council and the Government of National Unity, in its missions for the conduct of legislative and presidential elections on December 24.
In this regard, they urged the relevant Libyan institutions to take the necessary measures to clarify the constitutional basis for the elections and to enact the necessary laws to enable the High Electoral Commission to obtain the financial resources to prepare for the legislative and presidential elections.
Morocco was represented in this meeting by a delegation led by the Ambassador of the Kingdom in Cairo and its Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Ahmed Tazi.
