The Kingdom also reaffirmed its support for the cooperation and development process in favor of the most affected countries, including the countries of the African continent.
In an address on behalf of the Kingdom of Morocco, during the General Policy Discussion, Minister of National Education, Preschool Learning and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa highlighted the efforts made by Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to address the Covid-19 pandemic and mitigate its consequences in all areas, including education.
The Kingdom, said the Minister, mobilized very early, thanks to the High Royal Directions, to cushion the impact of the pandemic, both on the health level through the measures taken to ensure the generalization of free vaccination for over 12 years or for the application of measures to restrict movement or lockdown when necessary, as well as on the social level through the establishment of a solidarity fund and the launch of a major large-scale project of social protection, and economically with sectoral support and recovery plans.
In this context, the Moroccan education system has shown a "great ability to adapt" to the conditions imposed by the pandemic, by adopting new methods to ensure continuity of education, mixing face-to-face and distance learning, and by enriching the bank of video and digital resources in all fields and at all levels, added Benmoussa, who is also the chairman of the National Commission for Education, Science and Culture.
In addition, Benmoussa, who leads a large delegation including the ambassador-delegate of the Kingdom to UNESCO Samir Addahre, welcomed the strong partnership between the Kingdom and UNESCO while reiterating the firm commitment of the Kingdom of Morocco to host the seventh International Conference on Adult Education (Confintea VII) in the year 2022.
The Minister also announced the candidacies of the Kingdom of Morocco to the Executive Board of UNESCO and the World Heritage Committee 2021-2025.
He also said that Morocco fully subscribes to the Paris Declaration of 2021, on investing in the future of education, which will be adopted at the General Conference of UNESCO.
