This rate fell by 0.2 points in urban areas (from 35.3% to 35.1%) and increased by 1.4 points in rural areas (from 47% to 48.4%), said the HCP in its note on the main characteristics of the employed population in 2021, noting that this rate fell among men (-0.2 points) and increased among women (+0.7 points).
The employment rate for 15-29 year olds remains at 25.4 percent between 2020 and 2021, 2.8 points below its pre-crisis level (28.2 percent in 2019). The employment rate for 30-44 year olds has risen slightly by 0.4 points to 54.8%, compared to 56.8% a year before the health crisis.
The distribution of employed persons according to sector of activity shows that the service sector ranks first with 4,935,000 persons with a share of 45.8%, followed by "Agriculture, forestry and fishing" with 3,364,000 persons (31.2%), Industry with 1,261,000 persons (11.7%, of which 44.6% are engaged in craft activities) and, finally, Construction with 1,210,000 persons (11.2%).
