"The Moroccan experience is very distinguished in this field, both in terms of methodology and mechanisms put in place to combat illiteracy and dry up its roots including school dropout, "Ould Aamar said in an interview with M24, MAP's 24-hour-rolling news channel.
In the same vein, he praised Morocco's "remarkable" efforts in the fight against illiteracy, which will undoubtedly contribute to addressing the causes of this scourge.
The ALECSO chief praised the quality of the "fruitful" cooperation established with Morocco and which has been further strengthened in recent years."
"We hope that this exceptional cooperation will bear fruit in the coming years through the development of a series of joint programs," he said, calling on Arab countries to take advantage of the "pioneering" experience of the Kingdom in this field.
He also urged ALECSO member states to strengthen their cooperation and to pool their efforts in various areas, such as fighting illiteracy, promoting adult education, and exchanging experiences and best practices.
Some Arab countries, including Morocco, have successful experiences that should be shared and generalized, Ould Aamar stated.
Regarding the situation of illiteracy in the Arab world, the Director-General of ALECSO noted that several Arab countries are still facing this scourge, especially among youth and adults.
"Unfortunately, the political instability that plagues some Arab countries has caused an increase in the number of dropouts and illiterate," he said, stressing the need to address this situation to make sure that the dropout of today does not become the illiterate of tomorrow.
Ould Aamar urged all stakeholders in the Arab world to join efforts to reduce the current gap between digital transformation and adult education.
"We must, as countries and organizations, review our educational programs to address the causes of illiteracy in the Arab world, he stressed, describing the ALECSO as the appropriate institutional framework to initiate and accompany this pan-Arab effort.
