Speaking at this meeting with members of the African Federation of Canada and the Moroccan community established in this North American country, the Moroccan ambassador in Ottawa, Souriya Otmani reviewed the different aspects of the national strategy of immigration and asylum launched in 2013 under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI.
This proactive strategy, based on a humanistic approach, revolves around three axes, namely a policy of integration of African migrants, an African strategy on migration and a responsible and renewed international dialogue on the migration issue, said the diplomat.
She highlighted the efforts made by Morocco to regularize the situation of tens of thousands of African migrants and the voluntary return to their respective countries of thousands of others, with the coordination and collaboration of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the embassies of African countries accredited to Rabat.
"This pioneering policy of Morocco in the field of immigration has been enshrined in the designation of His Majesty the King as the African leader of immigration and the inauguration in Rabat of the African Observatory of Migration," she stressed at this meeting to shed light on the recent attempt of grouped assault of illegal migrants against the metal fence in the province of Nador.
During this meeting, emphasis was placed on the conclusions of the preliminary report of the fact-finding mission mandated by the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) on these events, which attest that the Moroccan police did not use bullets and that the deaths recorded were caused by mechanical asphyxiation following the stampede.
