This performance places Morocco in fourth place in terms of number of universities ranked at the African and Arab levels, said a statement by the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation.
They are the universities of Ibn Tofail, Cadi Ayyad, Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdallah, in the segment 1001-1200, and Abdelmalek Essaadi, Hassan II, Mohammed V and Chouaib Doukkali Universities, in the segment 1201-1500, said the statement.
According to the Ministry, the international rankings of universities are among the most important indicators of quality of higher education and development of scientific research in Morocco, with the aim of meeting the challenge of academic and scientific excellence advocated by the Plan for Accelerating the Transformation of the Ecosystem of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation (PACTE ESRI 2030).
While welcoming the tangible and regular improvement of the ranking of Moroccan universities, the Ministry reaffirms its willingness to redouble its efforts, with all universities, to improve this ranking in perfect harmony with the New Development Model aimed at perpetuating Morocco's position as a continental hub in the fields of higher education and scientific research and innovation.
The number of Moroccan universities ranked according to this global ranking has recorded a tangible improvement, going from five universities in 2021 to seven universities in the latest edition for the year 2023.
Considered as one of the best internationally, the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking, whose results of the 2023 edition were published on October 12, assesses, each year, universities according to 13 indicators divided into 5 different categories, namely, teaching, research, knowledge transfer, research influence, openness to international and innovation.
