"In light of the severity of Courtois's injury, Real Madrid's executives have initiated the search for a replacement, and Yassine Bounou has emerged as the favored choice after careful consideration of various options," states specialized daily Marca.
"The 32-year-old Bounou is genuinely interested in the prospect of donning the Real Madrid jersey and has conveyed his enthusiasm for this opportunity to Sevilla's leadership," notes the Spanish publication in its online edition.
"Bounou is to Ancelotti's liking," noted Marca, assuring that after the bad news of Courtois' injury, "the favorite is none other" than the Moroccan international to cover the Belgian keeper's absence.
"Bounou's appeal lies in multiple aspects. Firstly, his seasoned and triumphant track record is highly regarded," says AS, another Spanish sports publication. "He is a goalkeeper who advanced to the semi-finals of the recent World Cup in Qatar with the Atlas Lions and boasts two Europa League triumphs (2019-20 and 2022-23)."
"Bounou's familiarity with significant challenges makes him well-equipped to handle the pressures of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium crowd. His height of 1.95 meters, similar to Courtois' two meters, is also appealing," it further noted.
"The Moroccan national player is under contract with Sevilla until 2025, featuring a release clause of €50 million. However, there exists an unspoken understanding with Sevilla that they will allow his departure if a bid of €20 million is tabled," elaborates the same source.
