During a joint press conference with Government Spokesperson Mustapha Baitas, The Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, explained that the decision to house students locally stemmed from the logistical challenges associated with transferring them to other regions.
He further detailed that dedicated facilities, including tents and appropriate reception areas, have been established to ensure students' comfort and well-being.
Additionally, a strong emphasis has been placed on maintaining the quality of education, with a focus on addressing students' psychological needs through parallel activities.
Minister Benmoussa also shed light on the impact of the recent earthquake, revealing that nearly 1,050 educational institutions were affected, with 60 of them suffering complete destruction. He noted that while some schools are no longer operational, others can potentially resume partial operations.
The overarching objective, he stressed, is to expedite the reconstruction and rehabilitation of these institutions in the coming months, enabling students to return to their schools in time for the start of the next academic year.
The Minister underscored the ministry's commitment to swiftly restoring education in earthquake-affected regions. He reported that, in the majority of schools in these areas, classes have resumed, ensuring minimal disruption to students' educational journeys.
