"Choosing Morocco for the 2024 UN Human Rights Council Presidency is no accident. It reflects the Kingdom's longstanding dedication to the global human rights system, backed by tangible accomplishments on institutional and normative fronts," Aboudahab told MAP.
Pointing out that Morocco has essentially ratified all human rights-related conventions, including the recent one against enforced disappearances, the academic argued that "since 2011, we've seen the constitutionalization of commitments made by the Kingdom in the realm of human rights."
"The Kingdom maintains a continuous dialogue with UN representatives overseeing human rights, special procedures, and special rapporteurs," he added, noting Morocco's regular submission of reports on its commitment implementation and participation in the Universal Periodic Review.
Morocco's recent election to the Presidency of the United Nations Human Rights Council for 2024, achieved with 30 out of 47 member votes, reflects international acknowledgment of the forward-thinking vision of HM King Mohammed VI in safeguarding and advancing human rights.
This marks the first time in history that Morocco has assumed the Presidency of this esteemed UN body.
