As part of its communication policy, the ministry informs citizens that an increase in measles cases has been recorded in Morocco in a global context marked by an epidemic outbreak of this disease and its spread in several regions, particularly in Europe, Africa and the United States, the ministry said in a press release.
Nationally, a significant increase in measles cases has been observed since mid-September, particularly in the Souss-Massa region, the same source pointed out, adding that immediately, the ministry, through its regional and provincial services, has taken a series of field measures aimed at strengthening epidemiological monitoring and vaccination campaigns, which made it possible to contain the spread of measles, the cases recorded in recent weeks being concentrated in the provinces of Taroudant and Chtouka Ait Baha.
In this regard, the ministry noted that field epidemiological investigations have noted a drop in demand for vaccination in several urban areas, which has favored the spread of the virus and the emergence of epidemic outbreaks.
Recalling that vaccination remains the most effective measure to prevent several infectious diseases, including measles, the ministry calls on parents to respect the vaccination schedule adopted as part of the National Immunization Program, which provides for the administration of two doses against measles in the ninth and eighteenth months, recommending that they go to the nearest health facility in case of symptoms of the disease (rash accompanied by fever) to receive appropriate treatment and avoid complications.
