Morocco is represented in this meeting by Director of Rabat’s Higher Institute of Information and Communication (ISIC), Abdellatif Bensafia.
In a statement to MAP, Bensafia highlighted the active involvement of Arab countries in projects and initiatives on media literacy, noting that some countries have already made significant progress in this field with the long-standing integration of media literacy into educational and media programs.
This meeting, he added, aims to develop a united Arab vision and plan for coordinating media education initiatives and activities at several levels, stressing that this strategic plan should have beneficial spin-offs for all the countries in the region.
For his part, Ahmed Rashid Al-Khatabi, Assistant Secretary General of the Arab League and Head of the Media and Communication Department, said at the opening of the meeting that media literacy has become one of the main concerns of the Council of Arab Ministers of Information and organizations of the Arab League, due to its importance for the development of the Arab media sector.
Al-Khatabi also stressed the importance of this meeting, which comes on the eve of Global Media and Information Literacy Week, which kicks off on October 24 in Jordan, marking the determination of Arab countries to meet the challenges of media education in a constantly changing world.
