After completing the interrogation procedures, the Public Prosecutor's Office has decided to prosecute the individual in question while free on suspicion of offending constituted bodies and disseminating false allegations, as well as reporting a fictitious crime knowing it did not occur, and decided to summon him for a trial hearing, said the Public Prosecutor’s spokesperson (Deputy Prosecutor of the King at the Casablanca Court of First Instance) in a statement to the press.
In this context, the Office affirms that the individual benefited from the guarantees and rights conferred on him by law during the investigation carried out by the Judicial Police and during his interrogation, after being informed, together with his family, of the reasons for his arrest, of his right to remain silent and of all his legal rights, according to the same source.
He added that the Public Prosecutor's Office will monitor the progress of this case, in accordance with the law, and ensure that the guarantees and conditions of a fair trial are met, in keeping with the principle of equality of all before the law.
The Deputy Public Prosecutor stated that following the statement issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office on Thursday October 31, 2024 opening of a judicial investigation against an individual and taking him into police custody on suspicion of having committed criminal acts punishable by law, the Public Prosecutor's Office wishes to inform the public of the measures taken in the context of this case, without derogating from the fundamental principle of presumption of innocence.
Contrary to false information spread by some social networks concerning this case, the Public Prosecutor's Office has taken under its care following up the investigation procedures with the judicial police services, the same source added.
Furthermore, enshrining the Constitutional principle of the right to access information and in line with its role in informing the public on matters of interest, as it has been the case in other matters where communication has been ensured, this Prosecutor’s Office informs the public that the suspect was presented before this Prosecutor’s Office on the morning of Friday, November 1, after the completion of the investigative procedures and the fulfillment of all legal guarantees.
The individual was questioned, in accordance with the legal regulations in force, on the dissemination of information and allegations that are detrimental to the interests of the Kingdom and some of its institutions, which exceed the limits of freedom of expression and represent elements of crimes punishable by law, he further noted.
