Speaking at a roundtable of heads of delegation on decent housing for all, held in Cairo as part of the 12th World Urban Forum (WUF12), Benbrahim stressed the vital importance of multilateral cooperation and efforts in this field, noting that multilateral cooperation is called upon to play an incentive role for all countries to combat precariousness and guarantee decent housing for all.
This meeting, held as a prelude to the first appeal of the International Working Group of Experts to implement the “Adequate housing for all” resolution (Resolution 2/7 UNHA), is an opportunity to strengthen the coalition of states defending the decent housing resolution, widen the circle of participating countries and involve other key stakeholders, such as financial institutions and local authorities.
Morocco is represented at the event by a delegation comprising representatives from several ministries, public institutions, elected bodies and professional organizations, including the Ministries of National Land Planning, Urban Development, Housing and City Policy, the Interior, the Economy and Finance, the Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion (Deposit and Management Fund - CDG), Al Omran Group and urban agencies.
Themed “It All Starts at Home: Local Actions for Sustainable Cities and Communities,” the WUF12, which kicked off on Monday, represents the second largest event organized by the United Nations after the climate conferences, with a wide range of activities and events addressing various themes related to sustainable and inclusive urban development.
