The Sovereign launched the first phase of the project of developing the city's main roads and the first part of the third phase of depollution and wastewater collection project in the cities of Kenitra and Mehdia.
The protection of the environment, ensuring sustainable and coherent socio-economic development, the improvement of the locals' hygiene conditions, promoting road safety and enhancing Kenitra's attractiveness are the main objectives of these projects.
The first project consists of widening and paving roads and developing roundabouts and car parks. It is part of the Kenitra urban upgrading programme (2010 -2012) for which an investment of 164.9 million dirhams has been earmarked.
It involves the construction of access roads and various arteries of the city, the renovation of the public lighting network, paving streets, setting up green areas and public squares and building an indoor hall, community socio-sports centres and a multimedia library.
The second project consists of carrying out the part of the third phase of depollution and wastewater collection in the cities of Kenitra and Mehdia. The programme, whose first and second phases were carried out over 2004-2011, has an overall investment of 1.3 billion dirhams.
The fourth, last phase of this project are expected to be launched in 2013.
The urban upgrading and wastewater sanitation projects launched by HM the King will make Kenitra a major hub of economic and social development, which could have a positive effect on other communities in the region.
