During this ministerial meeting chaired this weekend in Addis Ababa by the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the African Union and the UNECA, Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi, the Bureau examined a number of UNECA statutory issues in order to adopt them at the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), in New York.
The Bureau also examined a draft resolution on the actions of the African continent to respond to the pandemic of the new coronavirus (COVID-19).
The Moroccan diplomat has proposed in this context the creation of a platform of African experts in the field of research to enable the African continent to fully contribute to the efforts in the fight against this pandemic.
This proposal was welcomed by all the parties to this meeting, and it was thus decided to organize a teleconference under the Moroccan presidency bringing together all of the African experts in this field, said the the Mission of the Kingdom to the AU and the UNECA.
Back in mid-February, Morocco had stressed at the AU Peace and Security Council the urgency of collective action against the epidemic of the Coronavirus in particular through the African Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC -Africa) where the Kingdom sits for a period of three years, while advocating for collective and urgent action by Africa, through the sharing of experiences between African countries.
