"Information available in the various ministerial departments show a relative increase in demand on the eve of Ramadan and during its first 2 days, without however equaling the usual levels for this same period of the previous year", according to a press release from the General Affairs and Governance Department under the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Administration Reform.
The commission also noted that markets are normally supplied with all goods and products, and that the supply largely covers the estimated needs for the coming months.
The same stability was recorded in the prices of goods and products compared to the previous week, however significant decreases were posted compared to the same period of the previous year, the same source said.
"For example, the prices of tomatoes and dry onion are 11% lower than the previous year, green onion posts -36%, red meats -7% and live chicken -26%," added the committee.
The interministerial committee convened under the chairmanship of the Department of General Affairs and Governance and with the participation of the ministerial departments in charge for the Interior, Agriculture, Fisheries, Industry and Commerce, and Energy and Mining to examine the situation of supply, prices and control.
The said committee will continue to hold its regular meetings to monitor the market situation, the level of supply and prices, and the intervention of control commissions to deal with any type of fraud, monopolization, speculation or price manipulation.
