"It is obvious that the Algerian statement is fuelling anti-Semitism by trying to attack the Jewish faith," said the US expert who was speaking on the program "With Morocco from Washington", broadcast Sunday night on Medi1TV, noting that Morocco does not need to go to Tel Aviv to ask for help on how to deal with Algeria, not even from the Jewish community in Morocco or the European Union.
It's really obscene and anti-Semitic to base their criticism on Zionism and Judaism, said the expert who was a senior foreign policy adviser at the State Department, arguing that whoever wrote the news story wanted to provoke a war of statements, something that is not in the interest of either Algeria and its notoriety or both countries in the long run.
For his part, the program's host, former US State Department spokesman ambassador Adam Erly, noted that APS's broadcast of a news story accusing seven MEPs of being manipulated by a Moroccan-Zionist lobby is an attack on both Morocco and the European Parliament.
This attack comes at a time when Algeria is experiencing a political, economic and constitutional crisis, he said, recalling that the Algerian people have revolted against the corruption of the government, which ignores their demands and prohibits all forms of expression of opinion.
Speakin on the same program, David Pollock, a researcher at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, and JD Gordon, a former Pentagon spokesman, noted that the Algerian media, led by the official news agency, resort to lies and anti-Semitism in order to export internal tensions to neighbouring countries, all the more so as Algeria is facing an unprecedented crisis, stressing that this war of statements led by Algiers emanates from a position of weakness and not of strength.
They indicated that Algeria has unstable relations with its neighbours as it often tries to create crises with its environment, believing that there is a lack of confidence on the part of the European Parliament towards Algeria, which is now perceived negatively by this European institution.
