Fifteen new cases were recorded in the Casablanca-Settat region (13 in Casablanca, 1 in Berrechid and 1 in Settat), 10 in Marrakech-Safi (the 10 in Marrakech), 5 cases in Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima (3 in Tangier, 1 in Larache and 1 in Tétouan), 2 cases in Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (both in Rabat) and only one case in Guelmim-Oued Noun (Bouizakarne), while the other regions of the Kingdom have not registered any cases, said Dr Mouad Mrabet, coordinator of the National Center for Public Health Emergency Operations at the Ministry of Health, in a statement broadcast by MAP on its M24 television channel and on RIM RADIO.
Of the 33 new confirmed cases, 31 were detected as part of the contact person tracking system, which has so far concerned 47,290, the official said, adding that 7,766 people are still under medical surveillance. 13,064 additional cases were excluded after negative laboratory tests, that is a total of 226,785 excluded cases, he said.
The death toll has risen to 206 in the past 24 hours, after the announcement of a new death, said Mrabet, adding that the fatality rate reached 2.6%.
In addition, the official said that 517 cases of recovery have been recorded in the past 24 hours, bringing to 6,410 the total number of recoveries in the Kingdom, a recovery rate of 81.5%.
The increase in the recovery rate over the past two days is due to the clinical condition of patients, he said, explaining that at the beginning of the epidemic, most of the patients were treated while presenting moderate or severe symptoms, while at the present stage, most of the recorded cases are asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms.
He pointed out that, in the first phase, the recovery took a long time, it took in some cases more than a month and in other cases six weeks, noting that currently most cases recover quickly, according to standards set by the Ministry of Health's Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee for acute respiratory infections.
Mrabet added that the recent rapid recovery of Covid-19 patients is also attributed to the treatment protocol and the use of treatment approved by the said committee.
The official concluded that the epidemiological situation in the Kingdom is constantly improving, calling for preserving this achievement by respecting the quarantine measures.
