The total number of COVID-19 cases in the country rises to 17,962 while the number of cured people increases to 15,636, coordinator of Emergency Operations at the Ministry of Health, Mouad Mrabet, told reporters, adding that the recovery rate has reached 87.1%.
Five new coronavirus-related deaths were registered over the past day, taking the death toll to 285, he said, noting that the fatality rate stands at 1.6%.
Regarding the geographical spread of the virus, the official said that the new cases were recorded in the regions of Casablanca-Settat (66 cases), Fez-Meknes (50), Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (44), Marrakech-Safi (39), the Oriental (7), Rabat-Salé-Kenitra (5), Draa-Tafilalet (4), Dakhla-Oued Eddahab (3) and Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra (2).
The total number of excluded suspected cases has reached 1.047.871 since the start of the pandemic, he said, adding that 203 of the new cases were detected through contact-tracing.
The number of active cases has reached 2,041, including 33 in a critical condition, Mrabet underlined.
