The Kingdom has always been a leader in relations between the two shores of the Mediterranean, he pointed out at a press briefing following talks with the Moroccan minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans abroad, Nasser Bourita.
Kamel underlined that his visit is intended to learn about Morocco's vision and its proposals regarding the challenges facing the Union in the era of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The aim is to build balanced relationships on the basis of sustainable development, he explained.
Morocco has always had a "clear" vision on the framework of Euro-Mediterranean relations and their priority areas, while working in favor of balanced relations between two partner shores that share common interests, Kamel pointed out.
For his part, Bourita said this meeting was an opportunity to discuss the development prospects of the UfM in the context triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly as the need for a framework coordination for Mediterranean countries has increased.
"We will soon be celebrating 25 years of the Barcelona process which will be an opportunity to focus on the new perspectives of the UfM and which can be a new start for the organization by taking advantage of post-Covid-19 opportunities," the minister added.
The 5 + 5 dialogue, which will be held in Tunisia at the end of October, will be an "important" meeting for the countries of the two shores to coordinate their positions and define their priorities, in particular on the eve of the launch of new ideas regarding the neighborhood policy of the European Union, he underlined.
Bourita reaffirmed the Kingdom's support for the UfM, recalling that Morocco takes part in all of the Union's activities and hosts nearly half of the programs bearing its label, in addition to the Euro-Mediterranean University.
The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) is an intergovernmental Euro-Mediterranean organisation which brings together all countries of the European Union and 15 countries of the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean.
UfM’s mission is to enhance regional cooperation, dialogue and the implementation of projects and initiatives with tangible impact on our citizens, with an emphasis on young people and women, in order to address the three strategic objectives of the region: stability, human development and integration.
