At its first meeting, chaired by the Head of Government Saad Dine El Otmani, the Commission approved the creation of four specialized thematic committees, namely the monitoring committee, the committee on legal issues, the committee on administrative and financial affairs, and the committee on the system of education, training and scientific research, according to a statement by the Department of the Head of Government.
Speaking at the opening of this meeting, El Otmani stressed the special nature of this meeting, which is an essential step in the adoption of the first integrated government plan for the implementation of the official character of the Amazigh language.
This plan is a clear and harmonious roadmap for all government departments in the years to come, the statement added.
It will also define the priority programs on which to work at the legislative, organizational and practical levels in a participatory approach involving the various ministerial departments concerned, as well as constitutional bodies, including the Higher Council of Education, Training and Scientific Research and the National Council of Languages and Moroccan culture.
According to El Otmani, this meeting is the result of a fruitful and constructive national debate on the cultural and linguistic diversity of the Moroccan society, in perfect harmony with the strong royal will aimed at consolidating societal cohesion and preserving the Moroccan plural identity.
The Head of Government also recalled that the Constitution of the Kingdom stipulates that Amazigh is an official language alongside the Arabic language, and common heritage to all Moroccans without exception.
El Otmani, called on the members of the Commission and other government departments and partner institutions to accelerate the strategic priority projects provided for by Organic Law 26-16 on the implementation of the official character of Amazigh.
During the meeting, members of the Inter-Ministerial Commission followed a presentation by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Otman El Firdaous on the components of the Integrated Government Plan for the implementation of the official character of the Amazigh language.
The said Plan includes a set of actions and measures scheduled over the next few years as part of the implementation of the official character of the Amazigh and the use of Amazigh in the administrations and public spaces.
The Permanent Inter-ministerial Commission was created by virtue of Article 34 of the Organic Law No. 16.26 setting the stages of implementation of the official character of the Amazigh language.
