ALDE Vice-President Regrets Algeria's Unilateral Decision To Sever Diplomatic Relations with Morocco

Brussels - The Vice-President of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) Party in the European Parliament, Ilhan Kyuchyuk, has expressed his deep regret following the unilateral decision of Algeria to sever diplomatic relations with Morocco.

"At a time of challenges and the necessity of dialogue between neighbors in the interest of citizens. I really regret Algeria's unilateral decision to sever diplomatic relations with Morocco," the MEP said in a tweet.

This decision “risks aggravating tensions in the region and could only have a negative impact”, he said.

Morocco took note on Tuesday of the unilateral decision of the Algerian authorities to sever diplomatic relations with the Kingdom.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad indicated that "Morocco regrets this completely unjustified but expected decision - in view of the logic of escalation noted in recent weeks - as well as its impact on the Algerian people".
