The number of seniors in Morocco recorded an increase in 2021 compared to 2004, when this group accounted for only 2.4 million (i.e 8% of the total population), the HCP said in an information note, marking the International Day for Older Persons, observed on October 1 each year.
This trend is due to the improvement of the life expectancy of the population, the source noted.
According to demographic forecasts carried out by the HCP, by 2030, the number of seniors will reach just over six million, an increase of 42% compared to 2021, and will represent 15.4% of the population.
