In anticipation of this inauguration, the ambassador of HM the King to Mexico, Abdelfattah Lebbar, received the members of the Committee and the Association of Jews of Moroccan origin established in the Latin American country, said the diplomatic representation of Morocco, in a statement.
This long-awaited project will allow the Jewish community to have a place of worship, the first of its kind in Mexico, reflecting the identity and typical ritual of Moroccan Judaism, the same source added.
During this meeting, the participants welcomed the close ties that unite Jews of Moroccan origin to the Kingdom, while expressing their "immense joy at seeing this project come to fruition, which the Moroccan Jewish community has been waiting for for over 40 years".
In this regard, the ambassador of the Kingdom recalled that the Jewish community constitutes an indivisible component of Moroccan society, and remains very present in the Moroccan culture, tradition and identity, recalling by the occasion that Morocco is the only Arab and Muslim country that recognizes the Hebrew tribe as an identity component in its constitution.
The Chief Rabbi Moshe Chocron Gabizon, a native of Tetouan and recently arrived from Venezuela to take charge of the new synagogue, stressed, on this occasion, that all Moroccan Jews remain viscerally attached to their country of origin and express their esteem and consideration to the August Person of HM King Mohammed VI. He also recalled that history concretely demonstrates the strength of the personal commitment of the Kings of Morocco to the Jewish community.
For his part, the Israeli ambassador to Mexico, Zvi Tal recalled the particularity of relations between Morocco and Israel because of the strong Jewish community of Moroccan origin which remains very attached to its roots and its country of origin.
