The prosecution had required 10 months suspended prison and 75,000 euros fine against Benzema. However, the judgment was harsher than the prosecutor's demands in Versailles.

In addition to Benzema, four other men were tried for this case and received sentences ranging from eighteen months of suspended imprisonment to two and a half years of imprisonment.

The lawyers of the footballer, who was absent from the judgement because of the sports calendar, said they were flabbergasted, denouncing a "severe" and "unfair" sentence, a "condemnation without proof" and "a truncated presentation of the facts".
