Average Annual CPI Rises by 1.4% in 2021 (HCP)

Casablanca - The average annual consumer price index (CPI) recorded, at the end of the year 2021, an increase of 1.4% compared to the year 2020, according to the High Commission for Planning (HCP).

This increase is due to the rise in the index of food products of 0.8% and that of non-food products of 1.8%, said the HCP in a note.

The variations recorded for non-food products range from a decrease of 0.2% for "Communications" to an increase of 5.9% for "Transport".

On this basis, the underlying inflation indicator would have increased by 1.7% during 2021 compared to 2020.

For the month of December 2021, the CPI recorded an increase of 0.1% during the month of December 2021, compared to the same month of the previous year.

This change was the result of a 0.1 percent increase in the food index and the non-food index.

The increases in food products observed between November and December 2021, mainly concern "Vegetables" with 4.7%, "Oils and fats" with 1.4%, "Bread and cereals" with 1% and "Coffee, tea and cocoa" with 0.3%.

On the other hand, prices fell by 4.4% for "Fruit", 2.3% for "Fish and seafood" and 1.8% for "Meat".

For non-food products, the decrease concerned mainly the prices of "Fuels" by 0.8%.
