This conference is co-chaired by Abdellatif Miraoui, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation and Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Its proceedings were opened by speeches of Stefania Giannini, Deputy Director General of Unesco for Education, and the two co-chairs, in the presence of Samir Addahre, Ambassador-representative of the Kingdom of Morocco to Unesco.
Morocco and Egypt expressed in 2018 their interest in hosting this Conference, the Arab region being the only one among the 6 electoral groups that has not yet hosted this event.
The convention, which will be adopted at the two-day conference, is the result of a three-year revision process aimed at incorporating new developments in the field of higher education in the region, as well as the principles of the 2019 Global Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education.
