"The opening of this branch in Laayoune reflects our firm belief that Morocco is among the strategic priorities of our group," said the president of the Polish lighting giant, Ryszard Wtorkowski, at the opening ceremony of its subsidiary in the capital of the Moroccan Sahara.
He noted that the choice of the group to settle in Morocco is explained by "the stable political and economic situation of the Kingdom, the high quality of its infrastructure, including airports, ports and highways, as well as its laws stimulating investment and the large number of projects in which our products could potentially be used."
"Our Moroccan branch in the city of Laayoune will soon expand into the African market. The objective will be the establishment of business activities in the field of professional LED lighting solutions in the Kingdom and in African countries," added the head of the Polish group.
For his part, the Moroccan ambassador in Warsaw, Abderrahim Atmoun, said that this opening attests to the great attractiveness of the southern provinces of the Kingdom in terms of direct international industrial investment in sectors generating added value and opportunities.
"The decision of LUG to invest in our southern provinces, specifically in Laayoune, confirms the confidence of the Polish group in the capabilities and resilience of the Moroccan economy, which is characterized by its great strategic openness to different African markets," said Atmoun.
The ambassador added that the opening of this subsidiary is an achievement of the Moroccan diplomacy's effectiveness, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
For his part, the director of the Regional Investment Center (CRI), Mohamed Jiffer, noted that the region of Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra has become in recent years a destination of choice for foreign investment, thanks to the development model of the southern provinces, launched by HM King Mohammed VI in 2015.
In its letter signed on January 21, the Board of Directors of LUG confirms its intention to invest in the production of electrical equipment in Morocco through a joint venture with a local partner.
The choice made by the Polish group to establish itself in Morocco comes after the visit to the Kingdom in September 2021 of a Polish economic mission that expressed interest in the investment opportunities offered by the country.
Organized by the Moroccan embassy in Warsaw, the mission visited Casablanca, Laayoune and Dakhla, two cities in the southern provinces that are experiencing a significant economic boom and offer exceptional assets for foreign investment.
With more than 30 years of experience and expertise in its field, the LUG Group, which employs more than 600 people in Poland, operates in several major cities around the world such as Dubai, Paris and London.
This European leader in professional lighting solutions is also present in South American countries, including Argentina and Brazil.
The inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of Abdeslam Bekrate, Wali of the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region and governor of the province of Laayoune, in addition to local officials and senior officials of the Polish group.
