The suspect, aged 27, was arrested in the Caïdat of Allogoum in the circle of "Foum Zquid" in the vicinity of Tata, and this as part of ongoing security operations undertaken by the services of the DGST, in order to fight and neutralize the dangers of terrorist organizations targeting the safety of the Kingdom and the security of citizens, said the BCIJ in a statement.
According to the initial investigation, the suspect downloaded and collected several digital content of extremist sites in order to learn about the nature of products and preparations found on the market and used in the manufacture of explosives and the design of explosive devices for use in terrorist operations using a "car bomb", added the same source.
Searches and investigations also showed that the suspect was preparing his terrorist project at the instigation of and in coordination with an extremist active abroad with links to terrorist events in Europe and who was responsible for providing funds and logistical support for the purchase of weapons and materials used in the manufacture of explosives, the same source said.
The suspect arrested in Morocco was responsible for the recruitment and enlistment of people chosen for the execution of the terrorist plan in the Kingdom, said the statement.
Investigations revealed that the terrorist plan was aimed at attacking foreign nationals in Morocco, some senior officials of ministerial and security departments, several governmental and banking establishments and sensitive security buildings whose photos were downloaded and updated via internet applications to facilitate their attack.
Searches conducted at the house of the suspect allowed the seizure of various quantities of suspicious substances used in the manufacture of explosives, namely sulfur, powdered coal, a quantity of fertilizer, an electronic scale, computer equipment containing digital data on how to manufacture explosives and posters with extremist character, as well as a manuscript as a "will" where the suspect threatens to carry out terrorist operations, said the same source.
The arrested extremist was placed in custody to complete the investigation conducted by the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations under the supervision of the prosecutor's office in charge of terrorism affairs, in order to elucidate the ramifications of this terrorist project and its links with terrorist organizations abroad.
This security operation reveals the persistence of the terrorist threat, especially in the wake of the determination of international terrorist organizations and its regional branches to multiply its attempts to undermine the safety of the Kingdom and the security of its citizens.
