"In 1991, Essaouira made the pioneering and singular choice to root its refoundation and rebirth in the inexhaustible richness of all its cultural and artistic expressions," recalled Azoulay, who spoke in a follow-up seminar on UNESCO's indicators to assess the contribution of culture to the achievement of the sustainable development goals set by the UN by 2030.
Strengthened by the national and international endorsement of its strategy and by the possibility that is now given by the Ministry of Culture and UNESCO to scientifically measure the achievements, lessons and weaknesses, the civil society of the City of Alizés is working on the definition of a 2030 roadmap that will focus on the role of "Culture in the reclamation of a universality reconciled with respect, legitimacy and richness of all its diversity," said the Advisor to HM the King.
Morocco is the country that was recognized and chosen to represent the Arab world in this process and Essaouira was selected to embody, carry and explain the legitimacy and depth of this choice, as it has anticipated, for over thirty years, the choices made today by the international community to give culture the place it deserves in the economy, society, philosophy and spirituality.
This workshop, which ended Friday, was an opportunity to highlight the legitimacy of the selection of Essaouira as a city that best embodies these cultural indicators of UNESCO 2030 program.
