The ceremony was an opportunity to renew and strengthen the commitments of the brotherhood - named after the inventor of printing - to actively contribute to promoting and developing reading and culture.
Five personalities were appointed "Companions of Gutenberg" during this ceremony enhanced by the presence of distinguished figures from diverse backgrounds who share the noble goal of spreading the love of reading.
Coming from the fields of education, literature, arts and media, the new members of the brotherhood have agreed to defend humanism, pluralism and acceptance of others, all of which are values symbolized by Gutenberg.
Introduced by Khalil Hachimi Idrissi, Grand Officer and President of the Gutenberg Companions -Morocco, the new members pledged to spread and defend Moroccan culture, Arabic and French, the official language of the brotherhood.
Taking their oath before the Grand Master of the Brotherhood, Philippe Jourdan, the new Companions also promised to work towards building a just and fraternal world while respecting other cultures.
These are Nadia Bernoussi, a lawyer-constitutionalist who took part in the drafting of the 2011 constitution, and Karim El Aynaoui president of the Policy Center for the New South think tank, and dean of the faculty of governance, economic and social sciences. Both were made Officers.
Amina Mansouri (bookseller), Baha Trabelsi (journalist-writer) and Souad El Tayeb (director of Radio Monte Carlo Doualiya) received the rank of Knight.
The 10th solemn Chapter of the Brotherhood was also marked by the elevation, by the Grand Master, of several members to higher ranks, in recognition of their devotion and commendable actions in defense of the Gutenberg values.
On this occasion, Mohamed Mbarki, Director General of the Agency of the Oriental, Larbi Belarbi, former Director-General of 2M, and Youssef Benjelloun Touimi, architect and urban planner, were raised to the rank of Grand Officer.
For their part, writer and journalist Seddik Maaninou, MAP's mediator Driss Ajbali and "Al Ittihad Al Ichtiraki" newspaper editorial director Hamid Jmahri, were promoted to the rank of Officer.
The presentation of the Commanders, the highest rank in the Brotherhood was one of the highlights of the ceremony of the 10th Solemn Chapter of the Gutenberg Companions Brotherhood/Morocco. The Commanders are companions who, according to the Chamberlain of the Brotherhood, Abdou Moukite, "work daily for the influence of culture."
These are Abdeljalil Lahjoumri, perpetual secretary of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, and Mohamed Nabil Benabdellah, who was in charge of several ministerial portfolios.
The Gutenberg Companions Brotherhood/Morocco was created in April 2010 as a result of twinning with the Gutenberg Companions Brotherhood/France. It brings together writing professionals with the aim of developing reading and culture, by contributing to building a just and fraternal world through respect for all cultures.
The Gutenberg Companions Brotherhood was created in 1979 in France before expanding worldwide through twinning.
