The agreement, which is part of the decentralized cooperation between Morocco and Italy, was initialed by the mayors of Bir Gandouz, Lafkir El Khattat, and Venticano, Luigi Di Nisco, in the presence of several representatives of local authorities and the civil society.
According to both parties, this agreement opens promising prospects for the consolidation of partnership ties in various sectors, including tourism, environment, culture, sports and community action, given the boom experienced by Morocco's southern provinces.
On this occasion, the mayor of Venticano expressed the desire of his city to strengthen trade relations with Bir Gandouz, stating that the Italian municipality will ensure increased communication between the youth of both cities, through partnerships and exchange programs.
For his part, the mayor of Bir Gandouz has expressed his commitment to establishing ''sustainable and mutually beneficial relations in all sectors of common interest" with the Italian city.
Our municipality is aware of the impact that could have such a dynamic cooperation and partnership between the two parties and is committed with all its potential and its assets to work for the success of this partnership," said El Khattat.
For Morocco's Consul in Naples, Abdelkader Naji, this twinning is "a unique model of solidarity and mutual respect and reflects the firm commitment of Morocco and Italy to establish decentralized cooperation as a strategic choice."
Naji emphasized the dynamism that the Moroccan Sahara is experiencing, under the enlightened leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, which qualifies it to become a strategic regional hub in terms of transatlantic connectivity and between Europe and Africa.
