After a two-year COVID-19 hiatus, the jazz festival, held until July 3, provides music lovers with a unique musical experience in an atmosphere of sharing and conviviality.
On Stage 21 of the Festival, which features Moroccan and African artists, the public has vibrated, during the opening concerts, to the rhythm of sounds combining jazz, blues, rock or Gnaoui fusions.
For this first evening, the Moroccan band Bab L'Bluz opened the festival by performing titles from their first album "Nayda!" and, thanks to their repertoire that combines fusion with psychedelic rock, blues and gnawi, they conquered the audience.
It was, afterwards, the turn of the Ethiopian musician and arranger, Mulatu Astatke, to plunge the audience into the heart of the world of ethio-jazz, a musical genre born in the early 1960s in Ethiopia, under the influence of jazz, traditional Ethiopian music, Latin music, soul / funk and Anglo-American pop music.
Known as the father of Ethiopian jazz, Mulatu Astatke treated the audience to a spirited performance of the most famous songs from his discography.
The program of this 15th edition of Jazzablanca Festival includes concerts performed by big figures of the national and international scene: Ibrahim Maalouf, Gilberto Gil, Asaf Avidan, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, Erik Truffaz feat Hamid El Kasri, Majid Bekkas, Oum or Natasha Atlas.
Launched in 2006, Jazzablanca is the international festival of jazz and contemporary music in Casablanca. It brings together thousands of festival-goers over three days in July.
