Organized by the Moroccan Observatory on Extremism and Violence (OMEV) in partnership with ICESCO, the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR), the Rabita Mohammadia des Oulémas, and the Policy Center for the New South (PCNS), the two-day conference aims to study the new phenomena of extremism, reassess the various forms of emerging terrorist threats, and the scourge of extremism that leads to violence.
In his opening address, ICESCO Director General Salem bin Mohammed Al-Malik stressed the importance of knowledge and understanding in tackling the issues of extremism and crime in general, arguing that intelligent reliance on the development of experimental and human sciences proves that rational approaches based on the conclusions of wisdom and experimentation are the best means of dealing with all forms of extremism.
This edition will be an opportunity to address five major issues of extremism, namely "The role of knowledge in combating extremism," "Global vision of current global trends," "The use of technology and AI by extremists, countermeasures used," "Fruitful exchange of practices in deradicalization, disengagement, and rehabilitation programs," "Debating behavioral and psychological aspects of recruitment and deradicalization," and "Managing the return and repatriation of foreign terrorist fighters and their families."
