At a ceremony held at the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco, attended by a host of personalities from the worlds of politics, art and culture, the prize was presented to the Italian poet by managing director of CDG Foundation, Wafaa Naim El Idrissi, and president of the Maison de la Poésie au Maroc, Mourad El Kadiri.
Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, said that the "Argana" prize is one of the world's most important cultural events, offering Moroccan poets the opportunity for a fruitful encounter with their compatriots from all over the world, highlighting the success of this award, which "has managed to bring Moroccan poetry closer to several of the world's poetic traditions."
In a brochure on the event, Bensaid added that Giuseppe Conte's long creative career testifies to constant efforts to promote all that is beautiful and noble in culture and life, highlighting his department's determination to further develop the multidimensional partnership uniting Morocco and Italy on a cultural level.
Speaking on this occasion, Giuseppe Conte expressed his joy and immense honor at winning the prize, which he described as "an important and distinctive award that he will remember for a long time to come", recalling that his literary works had always sought to build a bridge of communication between East and West.
Launched in 2002, "Argana" is a prize for poetic friendship that Moroccans award to poets who stand out for their experience in the field of humanist poetry, and who defend the values of difference, freedom and peace.
