'Excursion' (Ekskurzija in Bosnian) narrates the story of Iman, a validation-seeking teenager who fabricates a pregnancy, thrusting herself into a controversy that unfolds unpredictably. The film adeptly explores the social and emotional dynamics between individuals navigating the ambiguous space between girlhood and maturity.
Una Gunjak, the Bosnian filmmaker behind 'Excursion,' expressed her honor at being part of Marrakech Festival’s official competition. In an interview with MAP, she said she was “very honored” to have her film debuting the competition. “I am looking forward to seeing what the audience thinks of our film and how it resonates here in Morocco.”
Reflecting on the movie-making process, Gunjak noted that it was “long and laborious yet a happy adventure […] through which we have made beautiful friendships,” further expressing certainty that her film “will speak to a lot of people because it lives with the audience and stirs conversations, which is something that I wanted to achieve.”
For her part, Actress Asja Zara Lagumdžija, playing the role of Iman, shared her excitement about being part of the Marrakech International Film Festival in a similar statement, explaining how she has “quickly felt the energy of the festival that I assume is here every year.”
“It’s my first time in the festival, and I’m already in love with every little bit about it,” she further noted, expressing her happiness to see her film screened in Marrakech. “It’s a story that deserves to be told,” she believes.
Excursion, Gunjak’s first feature film, was made with the support of Eurimages, Aide au Développement at Cinemed, the Hubert Bals Script and Project Development Fund, and the Sørfond — Norwegian South Film Fund.
As the festival progresses, 'Excursion', a co-production of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, France, Norway and Qatar, will be followed by 13 other movies competing in the official competition, promising a diverse cinematic experience for the audience.
