"This tradition is central to the Sunnah of the Prophet that the Kingdom of Morocco has preserved", the minister told the press on the occasion of the rogatory prayers performed at Al-Masjid Al Aâdam in Rabat, in the presence of HRH Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and HRH Prince Moulay Rachid, adding that on this occasion, the faithful pray the Almighty to shower His blessings and His beneficent rains on the earth.
Through this laudable tradition, "perpetuated in Morocco like other Sunnahs of the Prophet", the faithful "pray the Almighty to shower His rain and thank Him for His benefits", he underlined.
Following the tradition of His revered ancestor Prophet Sidna Mohammed, peace and blessings be upon Him, HM King Mohammed VI has decided that rogatory prayers be performed in prayer areas (mousallas) and large mosques across all regions and provinces of the Kingdom.
Whenever rain is scarce, Moroccans perform rogatory prayers to implore God to shower His beneficent rains on the earth as a sign of mercy for His creatures, in accordance with the verses of the Holy Quran: "Call upon Me: I will answer your prayers", "Seek your Lord's forgiveness, ˹for˺ He is truly Most Forgiving. He will shower you with abundant rain."
