"The Kingdom and a number of African countries share a commitment to the same values and religious constants, which has meant that the Moroccan religious model is -widely followed and praised- on the continent", since "His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, is the protector of faith and religion", said Toufiq at the opening of the 5th ordinary session of the Foundation's Supreme Council.
He added that what sets the Kingdom apart in this field "are the legal acts of the bei'a to the Commander of the Faithful that are drafted by adouls and authenticated by magistrates and which date back four centuries".
"Our Ulema have laid the religious foundations of bei'a considering that this act preserves the constants of the nation, including religion", he said, stressing that these Moroccan Ulema have chosen to share the authentic values of religion with African scholars in order to spread and popularize the message of Islam, based on a correct understanding of religion and the Sunna of the Prophet Sidna Mohammed.
The Minister called on the Ulema to play their role to the full, to contribute to the renaissance and promotion of Islam, with the aim of "diagnosing the great gap that exists between Islam and the practice of this religion by the faithful".
He pointed out that African scholars are called upon to follow and imbibe the path traced by the first generation of Muslim scholars in the way they disseminate the teachings of Islam, and which is based on common religious constants and the purification of souls, citing the "Charter of African Ulema", which is seen as a concrete guide to achieving these efforts and objectives.
In this regard, the Minister highlighted the strong ties that unite Moroccan and African Ulema, in addition to the deep-rooted relations between Sufi brotherhoods, reiterating his call to the Ulema to adopt a "new model" for transmitting the messages of Islam.
Held with the High Approval of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, President of the Foundation, this session was attended by the chairmen and members of the Foundation's sections in these African countries, as well as members of the Higher Council of Ulema.
