This election acknowledges Morocco's significant contribution to the global discourse on crime prevention and criminal justice and highlights the Kingdom's credibility in countering terrorism and organized transnational crime, said the Permanent Representation of Morocco in Vienna.
During this event, Farhane, along with the President of the 66th session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), presided over the resumed session of both the CND and CCPCJ.
They reviewed the report of the Working Group focused on improving the governance and financial situation of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
Additionally, Farhane will chair the 32nd CCPCJ on Friday. The agenda includes discussions on budgetary and strategic management matters, follow-up on the 14th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, and preparations for the 15th Congress.
The session will also address the contribution of the CCPCJ to the work of the Economic and Social Council, covering the review and implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Program. Furthermore, it will involve the election of new members of the Bureau for the 33rd session of the CCPCJ, scheduled for Vienna in May 2024.
The CCPCJ serves as the principal decision-making body of the United Nations in the realm of crime prevention and criminal justice. Its mandate involves enhancing international efforts against both national and transnational crime and improving the effectiveness of criminal justice systems.
Moreover, the Commission acts as a forum for member states, fostering the exchange of expertise and experience to develop national and international strategies and determine priorities in the ongoing fight against crime.
