In a statement on behalf of the Kingdom at the 2nd Global Refugee Forum, Morocco's ambassador, permanent representative in Geneva, Omar Zniber, said that this trend stems from the Royal vision, which has always made humanitarian action and international solidarity a central pillar of Morocco's domestic and foreign policies.
Morocco continues to implement a dedicated multi-actor and partnership approach that has led to an increase in achievements and to developing best practices, he said. It is a "humanist" approach based on an asylum and immigration strategy pursued with determination since 2014, Zniber explained.
The diplomat reviewed several achievements made thanks to the establishment of an educational system which integrates children from immigrant, asylum-seeking and refugee families, the inclusion of migrants and refugees in all national statistical surveys, and the encouragement of employers to recruit migrants and refugees through a simplified procedure set up for this purpose promote their integration within Moroccan society.
He also reiterated Morocco's commitment to continuing its contribution to the global effort to protect and assist refugees through a series of priority actions, including an additional financial contribution to the operations of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) dedicated to refugee status determination, registration and documentation.
These actions, he added, also include the implementation of the "Humanized Border Management" procedural framework and the principle of non-refoulement, the full integration of refugees into national public health programs, the integration of children into the national education system, and the simplification of procedures for integrating refugees into the labor market.
Morocco will continue to advocate a better international response to prevent, protect, and assist people forcibly displaced by the effects of climate change, Zniber said, expressing the Kingdom's willingness to strengthen its fruitful partnership with the UNHCR.
