The police acted on a report of the alleged kidnapping of a person, detained in an iron box connected to electricity, by an individual suspected of human trafficking as part of illegal immigration operations.
Investigations and technical expertise enabled the victim's whereabouts to be pinpointed - the cellar of a villa in Meknes - and he was immediately freed. During the same operation, a second person who had been detained for around two months was also freed and evacuated to hospital.
The criminal investigation led to the arrest of the perpetrator, a 51-year-old Moroccan national of Swiss nationality. He was taken into custody as part of the investigation ordered by the competent public prosecutor's office.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect's motive was linked to fraud in connection with illegal immigration and human trafficking.
