Thanks to the mobilization of all stakeholders and positive interaction with the target populations, reconstruction works on 21 homes in this commune has been fully finished, whereas 127 others are in the final stages of completion.
The reconstruction operation is being carried out under the supervision of local authorities and technical committees in charge of monitoring and assistance, with a view to ensuring compliance with current architectural standards, appropriate construction methods and the use of suitable materials.
Aziz Al Fakir, from the Talgjount municipality, told MAP that the operation to rehabilitate totally or partially collapsed houses is progressing at a steady pace, adding that some 636 building permits had been issued to beneficiary families to date.
Since the very first days following the quake, he stressed, colossal efforts had been made to finish open construction sites and to ensure the timely rehousing of disaster victims, improving access to villages and rehabilitating roads.
Mohamed Ait Lachgar, a beneficiary of the financial aid allocated to families affected by the earthquake, expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the reconstruction works, noting that this effort could not have succeeded without the unfailing commitment of the authorities and various stakeholders.
This large-scale operation is proceeding smoothly, said Ait Lachgar, who praised the “great work accomplished by local authorities in terms of meticulous monitoring and permanent availability to lend a helping hand to citizens in these exceptional circumstances”.
Other families welcomed the actions undertaken by public authorities, recalling that they also benefit from 2,500 dirhams as monthly support.
Waiting for the completion of the reconstruction and rehabilitation works on their homes, some families are still staying with relatives or neighbors, while others have used the aid to rent houses. Other families are still living in tents.
It should be noted that according to data from local authorities in the province of Taroudant, out of a total of 15,394 households whose homes have been destroyed or damaged, 3,825 households are still living in tents.
Reconstruction works, which are continuing unabated, are also taking place in full respect of the environmental dimension, heritage and way of life specific to this region.
