In a speech marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, held at the headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Morocco's ambassador to Ethiopia and Djibouti Nezha Alaoui M'hammdi, stressed that a genuine peace in the Middle East must guarantee the Palestinians their legitimate rights, within the framework of the two-state solution, deploring the tragic situation prevailing in Gaza.
Alaoui M'hammdi, President of the Council of Arab Ambassadors in Addis Ababa, recalled the actions undertaken by Morocco, under the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, including the dispatch of several humanitarian aid convoys to the Gaza Strip.
The diplomat also recalled the Sovereign's message to the Chairman of the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, Cheikh Niang, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People in which HM the King stressed that the Kingdom of Morocco reaffirms the need for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and for an end to the repeated attacks on the defenceless inhabitants of the West Bank and al-Qods; and for the protection of civilians while making sure that they are not targeted.
The Sovereign also indicated that the Kingdom insists on the need to open all crossings immediately, permanently and unconditionally, without any restrictions, to preserve, strengthen and support the role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA); to reject any displacement of Palestinian citizens and ensure full compliance with international law and international humanitarian law; and to start serious, meaningful negotiations to revive the peace process, in accordance with UN resolutions and international legitimacy, the diplomat added.
