This “historic” step falls in line with the vision of the Sovereign, who called for “concrete actions in favor of peace” during the Forum held two years ago in the Kingdom's spiritual capital, Moratinos told the press, on the sidelines of his participation in the “Euromed University Meetings on the Alliance of Civilizations”, held under the patronage of HM King Mohammed VI.
To the senior UN official, the creation of this Chair at the Euromed University is a way of equipping students “with tools, values, principles and knowledge to make the world a better place”.
Moratinos particularly welcomed the choice of the city of Fez to host this Chair, noting that students from all over the Mediterranean, Africa and elsewhere are joining forces at Euromed University to build a common future.
For his part, Chairman of the Alliance of Civilizations Chair at UEMF Abdelhak Azzouzi explained that the Chair “fulfils academic objectives, as it aims to promote research, training and consulting in the field of the Alliance of Civilizations”.
Throughout the academic year, it offers a rich and diversified program of scientific and cultural activities designed to train young people from different disciplines and specializations in values of civilizational dialogue and intercultural exchange”, Azzouzi explained, adding that the Chair's team is made up of some sixty members from all continents.
Bringing together prominent international figures, these meetings, to continue on Saturday, focus on several themes linked to peace, migration and international cooperation, transparency, responsibility and trust, preventive diplomacy and international cooperation, as well as artificial intelligence.
According to the organizers, these meetings strive to promote dialogue, with a view to building common solutions to global problems such as the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the integrity and accuracy of information, extreme climatic phenomena or forced migration under the pressure of various factors.
