Attended by Minister of Transport and Logistics Abdessamed Kayouh, this session of the ACAO's GA, comprised of 22 Arab countries, was devoted to examining the extension of the current director's mandate for a third term and expanding the executive council to 11 members, with the integration of Tunisia and Yemen.
Speaking on this occasion, Chairman of the ACAO General Assembly and Libyan Minister of Transport Mohamed Salem Al-Chahoubi, emphasized that hosting this face-to-face meeting in Rabat, where the organization is headquartered, testifies to the commitment of member states to strengthening their cooperation in the civil aviation sector, a key area for promoting national economies and improving services offered to citizens.
Joint action in civil aviation plays a central role in achieving a unified Arab market, facilitating citizens' mobility, bolstering regional integration and laying solid foundations for a lasting partnership in the service of common interests, al-Chahoubi noted.
For his part, Chairman of ACAO's Executive Board Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Duaile, emphasized the importance of Arab countries' common will to improve and develop this vital sector, an essential pillar of sustainable development in the region.
Success depends on unity, complementary roles and cooperation between Arab countries, he pointed out, recalling that the latter have already proved their ability to compete with the West, and must now unite to showcase their strength in this strategic field.
Since its creation in 1996, the Arab Civil Aviation Organization has worked to strengthen coordination and cooperation between the civil aviation authorities of its member states, through its governing bodies, technical committees and general secretariat.
ACAO has inked memorandums of understanding with regional organizations in Africa, Europe and Latin America, as well as with several countries around the world, enabling it to contribute to capacity building and offer technical support to international civil aviation.
In addition, priorities have been defined and joint action plans drawn up with the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) regional offices and similar regional organizations, focusing on strengthening air transport, its safety and security, increasing air navigation capacity and efficiency, and protecting the aeronautical environment.
