The procedure, deployed in Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech and Fez, has helped 100 deaf children from 17 African and Middle Eastern countries (4 Palestinians, 3 Lebanese and one Syrian) to benefit from cochlear implants, giving them the opportunity to have a better quality of life.
At a ceremony hosted in honor of the children, their families and care-givers, Morocco's ambassador to Jordan Fouad Akhrif emphasized that this humanitarian initiative illustrates the solidarity-based dimension of Moroccan foreign policy, driven by HM the King's clear vision towards both African and Arab countries.
In this respect, Akhrif emphasized the special place and importance the Kingdom gives, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al Quds Committee, to the Palestinian cause, through ongoing support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
The Moroccan diplomat dwelt on the humanitarian and social projects undertaken by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency, the executive arm of the Al-Quds Committee, under the supervision of His Majesty the King, in favor of Al-Quds and its inhabitants, with a view to preserving the religious heritage and shared memory of the Holy City, as well as strengthening its residents' resilience.
For his part, Bilal Qassem, member of the Palestinian National Council and Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, welcomed this successful humanitarian initiative, following the cochlear implant procedures for these children carried out last week by the Lalla Asmaa Foundation for the Hearing Impaired, at the specialties hospital of the Ibn Sina University Hospital in Rabat.
Morocco has consistently shown support for the Palestinian cause on the ground, he noted, highlighting the humanitarian and solidarity-based efforts and initiatives of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency in favor of the Palestinian people, through support and funding of programs and projects in the health, education and housing sectors.
At the ceremony, the families of the beneficiaries expressed their immense joy and deep gratitude for this noble gesture, which enabled their children to regain their hearing, self-confidence and better family and social integration, lauding the welcome and hospitality extended to them by the Moroccan people.
To mark the occasion, symbolic gifts were presented to the children who benefited from the operation.
This initiative, the first of its kind on a global scale, aims to improve the quality of life of hearing-impaired children and establish a high-level medical network for the treatment of hearing problems in Africa and the Middle East.
