In a press release, NARSA reminds all road users, particularly drivers of public transport, freight vehicles, and various types of vehicles, of the need to comply with the Highway Code and to demonstrate increased caution, prudence, and patience while traveling.
In this regard, NARSA emphasizes the necessity for drivers to have their vehicles undergo a mechanical inspection and a thorough technical check of safety systems before hitting the road. This includes verifying the proper functioning of headlights, tires, braking systems, shock absorbers, and windshield wipers.
Drivers are also advised to get sufficient rest to ensure safe and healthy driving, avoiding fatigue that could lead to concentration issues and impair their ability to assess distances, speed, and reaction times, NARSA notes.
Travelers are also encouraged to plan their trips in advance by defining their itineraries to avoid any unexpected issues or potential dangers. They should securely store and fasten their luggage without overloading the vehicle, particularly freight and public transport drivers, as overloading poses a significant risk to road safety, the press release adds.
While driving, NARSA urges motorists to reduce their speed and adjust it according to weather and traffic conditions, to strictly observe the Highway Code—especially when navigating curves, slopes, and steep roads—and to maintain a safe distance both within and outside urban areas, particularly on national roads and highways. Extra caution is advised, especially when overtaking, and heightened vigilance is recommended for night driving.
Children under ten years old must be seated in the back and are required to wear seat belts, just like all passengers, whether seated in the front or rear, and including those traveling by public transport buses. The agency also highlights the importance of avoiding tailgating, using turn signals when overtaking or stopping, and refraining from sudden maneuvers, according to the same source.
