These messages were sent notably by King Abdullah II of Jordan, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, and Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz.
The Sovereign also received messages from Secretary General of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) Habib Benyahya, Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Akmal Eddine Ihssan Ouglou and First Secretary of the French Socialist Party Martine Aubry.
Several other heads of States and international personalities expressed sympathy and solidarity with Morocco following this tragic incident, which left 75 people injured.
The 18th-century minaret collapsed Friday afternoon when hundreds of worshipers were attending the Friday prayer. The collapse was blamed on heavy rains which weakened the historic minaret.
Following this tragic event, HM the King ordered the conduct of an urgent appraisal of all Morocco's old mosques.
