Road infrastructure development, urban upgrading, strengthening drinking water supply and wastewater networks and promoting the fisheries sector are the main objectives of the projects launched or inaugurated by the Sovereign in the region.
HM the King inaugurated the final section of the Mediterranean bypass (Jebha / Tetouan), an equipped fish unloading site and the fisherman village at the rural commune of Bni Bouzra, and launched the drinking water supply and wastewater project in the Azla / Oued Laou coastline.
The construction of the last section of the Mediterranean bypass linking El Jebha to Tetuan on 120 km, which required 2.5 billion dirhams, will make it possible to significantly reduce the travel time between Tangier and Saidia, by approximately three hours.
The building of the equipped fish unloading site and the fisherman village is part of efforts to promote the small-scale fishing sector, improve the living and working conditions of fishermen and creating a better environment for the marketing of sea products.
Benefiting more than 320 fishermen, the project is part of the national coast development programme which consists of developing and restructuring the fisheries sector by setting up integrated hubs in their economic and social environment. The project required a budget of 108 million dirhams.
As to the drinking water supply and wastewater project in the Azla / Oued Laou coastline, it consists of implementing a wastewater treatment plant in Oued Laou and two other impoundment-based treatment stations in Azla and Amsa centres.
The 160 million dirham project also consists of setting up wastewater networks along the coastal centres and providing drinking water to the seaside resorts of Azla, Amsa, Tamrabet, Tamernout, Aouechtam and Oued Laou.
