On this occasion, Ban Ki-Moon commended the leadership of HM King regarding the lofty international ideals and highlighted the significant contribution of the Kingdom of Morocco, an active member of the Security Council and a major contributor to peacekeeping operations, the same source added.
The U.N. Secretary General also renewed the Organization's esteem for the ongoing commitment of the Kingdom of Morocco, which has always responded favorably, under the leadership of His Majesty, to the calls of the international community aimed at preventing conflict and consolidating sustainable peace, both regionally and internationally.
With regard to the Sahara issue, said the statement, the Secretary-General said, during this conversation, that the U.N. does not intend to modify the terms of its mediation, which aims to promote a mutually acceptable political solution to the dispute.
He also stressed that his Personal Envoy and his new Special Representative will carry out, within the specific framework, as set by the Security Council, their mandates on the progress of the settlement process and thereby contributing to the establishment of expected bilateral relations with Algeria.
HM the King reaffirmed, for his part, the continued mobilization of the Kingdom in the service of the universal values of peace and cooperation as advocated by the United Nations.
Regarding the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, HM the King reiterated the sincere, voluntary and constructive willingness of the Kingdom, which relies in a tangible way on the advanced autonomy proposal that the international community welcomed as serious and credible lever to end this latent conflict.
On the occasion of this conversation, HM the King and the U.N. Secretary General discussed major international issues and agreed to maintain at the highest level of excellence the fruitful, consistent and responsible exchanges between the Kingdom and the United Nations, the statement concluded.
